Rev. Denise Weaver combines her love for pastoral care, preaching, mission, and education as Associate Pastor at Fairmont. Her ministry style is relational which is put to good use with the cross section of ages within Fairmont Church. She especially values journeying with young families and young couples through the joys and challenges of their life stage, caring for members and their family members as they experience health concerns and end of life issues, and providing care to members through the highs, lows and plateaus of life.
Denise enjoys “equipping the saints for the work of ministry” by training members to become Spiritual Caregivers. Spiritual Caregivers receive training in listening skills, intentional paraphrasing, perception checks, confidentiality and the use of scripture and prayer in visits (to name a few) to enhance their journeying with and caring for older members either homebound or in nursing homes. Their visitation supplements the visitation done by the pastors.
Denise began serving at Fairmont in September 2008 after eight years as a Solo Pastor. She has served three churches in the Presbytery of the Miami Valley as well as in Lima, Ohio and Indiana. She is a graduate of Bluefield College, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Her post-graduate training included three years as a Resident in Clinical Pastoral Education in a hospital setting. A Virginia native, Dayton has been home since 1993.
Denise married Dr. John Weaver, Chair of the Humanities Department and History professor at Sinclair Community College, in June of 2012. They are empty nesters while Haley and Christopher, young adult children from Denise’s first marriage, live out of state for work and college. The four of them enjoy family vacations at the beach, movies, and playing with their miniature dachshund Anabel.
Denise enjoys entertaining, reading, dancing, and all things chocolate.
